Camporee – Welcome to the Wild West

We’re just a few days away from heading out to the Wild West… well, Western Carthage at Camp Durant!! Camporee will be full with 930 participants and camp staff, and there should be a lot of activities for everyone to do.

In keeping with the theme, please consider wearing scout-appropriate Western attire during the activities Saturday (no toy guns!!!) Camporee staff has been deputized and will be arresting leaders throughout the weekend. To spring them from jail, you should bring non-perishable foods to support our food drive.

Trailer Logistics and Travel to Camp

Camp Durant is located at 4637 Old Carthage Rd, Carthage, NC 28327

Driving there takes about an hour, and the roads through Carthage can be narrow.

Arrival and Campsite

As it’s an early release day this Friday, unit Check-in will begin at 4 pm. We recommend that scouts/families grab food on the way down, as we’ll only have snacks at our evening cracker barrel. We will be staying in the Red Cedar site with Pack 216. We will each get our shelter (A or B) and split the site in half for tenting. Parents will be able to park at the campsite, but please be sure to pull completely off the road so that emergency vehicles can pass by. 

Schedule

Each morning will begin early, with breakfast served around 7 am. We will be heading down to the Sullivan Center for flag raising and the program kickoff. For quick reference, I have attached the schedule of events.

Food and Meal Prep Schedule

Breakfast Sat – Bears: Pancakes and Sausage

Lunch – Tigers and Wolves: Sloppy joes with fruit, carrots, and chips

Dinner – Webelos (and a few extra parent volunteers): Chili and Cornbread with salad

Breakfast Sun – Lions: Continental Grab & Go

Lastly, please check the weather. As of today, it’s expected to rain on Saturday. Pack appropriately, and be sure that your tent has a proper rain fly and footprint or tarp underneath to prevent flowing water.
